What Types of Products Can You Request from GWSC?

The Global Water Security Center currently produces two primary types of products: Quicklooks and Environmental Insight Briefs. The type of product is determined by the requestor’s needs.

Quicklook

A Quicklook (QL) is a one-page informational brief that documents water and environmental security impacts for a specific region or defined conflict. This brief (placemat) provides a high-level overview of the most salient impacts of likely water, weather, and climate events in the next three to nine months (e.g., El Nino SOUTHCOM Impacts) or by 2035 (e.g., Maldives Water Scarcity).

A Quicklook can help answer the question “What should I be concerned about?” It might be used by  General and Flag Officers to understand water and environment-driven emerging risks within their AOR or incorporated into OSD strategic engagement read books.

Environmental Insight Brief

An Environmental Insight Brief (EIB) is an informational brief, typically around four pages, that looks more deeply at water and environmental security impacts on various sectors within a specific country or region and also includes a single-page “tear-off” summary akin to a Quicklook. This brief provides a more detailed summary of sectors likely to be affected by weather, water, and environmental changes.

EIBs typically consider both historic weather impacts and provide insight on how weather, water, and environmental drivers and impacts may differ by 2035 and/or 2050 (e.g., Jordan Future Water Supply).  They might be used to inform leaders for budget planning, engagements in defense diplomacy, security cooperation initiatives, and theater campaign plans.
