Richard Doherty, Assistant Director for Information Technology
Richard Doherty has held a variety of technology leadership roles in both the USA and the UK over the past 28 years. Richard was previously on faculty with the Culverhouse College of Business and returned to the University of Alabama from a faculty role at Auburn University, Harbert College of Business in August of 2021.
Before his career in higher education, Richard was based in the UK and helped lead global ERP software implementation efforts at Diageo and GlaxoSmithKline where he was VP, ERP Design and Deployment. His professional work in the UK included time at the BBC, British American Tobacco, and Wipro as a Senior SAP Practice Manager. Earlier experience includes SAP, PriceWaterhouse, and Ceridan back in the USA. Some of his career achievements include recognition as the CTO of a B2B marketplace that made Forbes’ Best of the Web and the satisfaction that comes with seeing hundreds of previous students move on to successful careers in data, applications, and technology.
Richard has done graduate work in data science at RMIT (Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology) and earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science from the University of Alabama College of Engineering, as well as a master’s in business administration from the University of Alabama Culverhouse College of Business.
